#01 Är detta havet? / Is this the ocean? (JUL2017) Traditional Cache

När man färdas på E4:an genom Höga Kusten-området undrar man ibland om det är Bottenhavet eller en sjö man ser. Nu finns det en cache på några ställen där man kan stanna upp, logga gömman och ta reda på vilken typ av vatten som syns.

Här i Norum är det en ganska stor sjö som det tom kan gå vågor på med vita gäss när det blåser. Då kan man lätt tro att det skulle vara en vik av Bottenhavet men så är det alltså inte.

Här är svaret en sjö!

Man brukar säga att alla hav hör ihop, men det finns ändå tydliga skillnader mellan hav och sjöar. Bottenviken eller Bottenhavet är den innersta delen av Östersjön, där vattnet blir sötare ju längre norrut man kommer. Det beror på de många älvarna som rinner ut i havet. Även om vattnet blandas runt så består 4/5 av Bottenvikens vatten i norr av älvvatten. Detta faktum inverkar på vilka arter som trivs i de nordligaste delarna och här finns fisk som annars bara lever i sötvattensjöarna, t ex mört, abborre, gädda och harr.

Eng: Here in Norum, it's a pretty big lake that even can have waves on windy day. It looks almost the same as number two in this geocache series. Therefor you can easily believe that this also would be a bay of the Bothnian Sea, but it is not.

The right answer here is a lake!

It is usually said that all seas belong together, but there are still clear differences between seas and lakes. The Gulf of Bothnia or the Bothnian Sea is the innermost part of the Baltic Sea, where the water becomes more fresh the further to the north you come. It depends on the many rivers that flows into the ocean. Even though the water is mixed around, about 4/5 of the water in the north comes from the rivers. That fact impacts on what species are thriving here. In the northernmost parts there are fish that otherwise normally lives in the fresh water lakes, such as roach, perch, pike and harrow.
