Bunny Lane Alongside these old cottages on Great North Road was a lane used for hundreds of years linking the main settlement of 'Eaton' with its hamets and farms in the outlying parish. The cottages, which had a preservation order on them, were taken apart in 1966 brick by brick, stone by stone and moved to Shelford to be rebuilt. Since then the two bungalows were built on site (113 & 115 Great North Road), the entrance to the lane has become Nelson Road and the lane seen alongside Nelson Road has remained a sunken trackway. Bunny Lane is mentioned just once in the census returns of the 1800's when an uninhabited house was recorded in the 1891 census. In the 1900's a large barn on the south side of Bunny Lane was converted into a hall and was used for many purposes - including Girl Guides in the 1930's and a Headquarters for the local Air Raid Patrol in the Second World War. Local residents recall the lane as a popular place for courting couples and a large number of rabbits - hence the name 'Bunny Lane'. This ancient right of way still exists - even though it now crosses the A1.
