El Conjunto Arqueológico fue descubierto en 1991 con motivo de las obras de soterramiento del ferrocarril y construcción de la nueva estación del AVE de la ciudad. Debido al apresuramiento con que se deseaban finalizar las obras de la estación, ya que debía estar funcionando para la inauguración de la Exposición Universal de Sevilla en 1992 (Expo´92), buena parte de la superficie del yacimiento se destruyó mientras que otras zonas están ocultas bajo las avenidas, calles y casas que la rodean. La imagen que Cercadilla pretende ofrecer al visitante es la de superposición de la ciudad moderna con la extensión del yacimiento bajo ella.
El hallazgo de mayor relevancia en Cercadilla han sigo los interesantes vestigios de un amplio conjunto palatino construido en las postrimerías del s. III d.C., en las inmediaciones de la antigua "Colonia Patricia Corduba". El edificio, erigido sobre la villa suburbana de época romana altoimperial, constituye indudablemente un caso único entre los múltiples legados de la arquitectura romana que hasta nosotros ha llegado. Permite plantear que el monumento originalmente constituyó el palacio y sede del emperador Maximiano Hercúleo durante su estancia en Hispania, entre los años 296-297 d.C., y lugar desde donde organizaría la campaña pacificadora que inmediatamente después le conduciría al norte de Africa.
La Pasarela
En 2010 se inauguró la pasarela que, con un presupuesto de 700.00 €, construyó la Gerencia de Urbanismo del Ayuntamiento de Córdoba para unir el barrio de la Paz con la avenida de América. Además de eso es un estupendo enclave para obtener una nueva visión del yacimiento
Durante una década aproximadamente, desde 2004, el yacimiento ha recibido visitas pero en febrero de 2015 se cerraron sus puertas. Después de dos años de abandono ha comenzado el acondicionamiento para dar vida de nuevo a los restos. Para el otoño de 2018 se espera poder recibir visitas de nuevo.
The Archaeological Ensemble was discovered in 1991 due to the works of burying the railway and construction of the new AVE station in the city. It allows to state that the monument originally constituted the palace and seat of Emperor Maximiano Herculeo during his stay in Hispania, between the years 296-297 AD, and place from where he would organize the pacifying campaign that would immediately lead him to North Africa.
In 2010 the catwalk was inaugurated, with a budget of € 700.00, built by the Town Planning Department of Córdoba City Council to unite the neighborhood of La Paz with Avenida de América. In addition to that it is a great enclave to obtain a new vision of the deposit For a decade or so, since 2004, the site has received visits but in February 2015 its doors were closed. After two years of abandonment the conditioning has begun to give life to the remains again. By the fall of 2018 it is expected to receive visits again.
