Cornaiano
Il paese di Cornaiano si trova a 435 metri s.l.m. su un terrazzo naturale nella parte orientale della Strada del Vino e gode di molte ore di sole al giorno. La località conta all’incirca 2.200 abitanti che vivono per lo più di turismo ed agricoltura.
La chiesa parrocchiale di Cornaiano si trova nella pittoresca piazza del paese ed è consacrata a San Martino di Tours. Ogni anno, l’11 novembre, viene festeggiato il santo del paese. San Martino viene celebrato con una grande festa che coinvolge tutto il paese, in occasione della quale viene organizzato anche un mercato. Molti agricoltori festeggiano in questa giornata la fine del raccolto.
A metà ottobre inoltre viene festeggiata la fine della vendemmia con “L’ultima consegna d’uva”, infatti quando la maggior parte dell’uva è già stata torchiata l’ultimo carro pieno d’uva, accompagnato da contadini e contadine vestiti in abitati tradizionali, viene portato nel centro di Cornaiano. Davanti alla chiesa l’uva viene spremuta con un antico torchio.
Ogni 4 anni ad inizio settembre ha luogo la festa delle cantine, si narra che il paese di Cornaiano sia molto più grande sottoterra che sopra, questa potrebbe essere l’occasione adatta per scoprirlo.

Das Dorf liegt auf 435 m Meereshöhe auf einem Plateau auf der östlichen Seite der Südtiroler Weinstraße und erfreut sich zahlreicher Sonnenstunden am Tag. Ungefähr 2.200 Menschen wohnen an diesem Ort und betreiben vor allem Landwirtschaft und Tourismus.
Die Pfarrkirche von Girlan steht auf dem schmucken Dorfplatz und ist dem Hl. Martin von Tours geweiht.
Am 11. November jeden Jahres (außer es ist ein Sonntag) feiert man hier im Dorf den Tag des Kirchenpatrons besonders intensiv. Der Martinimarkt füllt das ganze Dorf und ist für viele Menschen aus der Umgebung die beste Gelegenheit zu feiern. Mancher Landwirt feiert an diesem Tag auch den Abschluss seiner Ernte.
Mitte Oktober wird dieser auch öffentlich gefeiert. “Die letzte Traubenfuhre” ist ein Ritual, das die Vergangenheit wiederspiegelt. Auf einer Fuhre werden die “letzten” Trauben auf den Dorfplatz gefahren und dort in einer alten Torggl zu Most gepresst. Natürlich ist Publikum an diesem Tag auch erwünscht und wird mit Köstlichkeiten, Wein und süßem Most verwöhnt.
Alle vier Jahre, Anfang September, erlebt man vor allem unter der Oberfläche Girlans eine besondere Feier. Das Girlaner Kellerfest hat einen sehr guten Ruf und ist die beste Möglichkeit, sich von der Größe des Dorfes unterhalb der Erde zu überzeugen.

The village is located at 435 m asl on a plateau at the east side of the South Tyrolean wine route and benefits from a great number of sunshine hours per day. About 2,200 people live in this place, earning their living mainly in agriculture and tourism. The parish church of Cornaiano is located on the charming village square and is consecrated to St. Martin of Tours.
Every year November 11, except if it is a Sunday, in Cornaiano the feast day of the village’s patron saint is celebrated intensely. The Martini market attracts people from all over and provides a great opportunity for celebrating. Some farmers on this day also celebrate the end of their harvest.
In mid October, the end of harvest is, however, officially celebrated in an event that could be literally translated with “the last grapevine carriage”. On this occasion the “last” grapevines are brought to the centre of the village, where they are pressed. Of course everyone is warmly invited to come and see.
Every four years, at the beginning of September, there is another special event taking place in Cornaiano. The Cellar Festival (Girlaner Kellerfest) is a successful event and a great occasion for experiencing the considerable size of the village under the ground.
