In 1873, Baglan School Church was built as a replacement for the former Pant-y-Swan school. The school at the time had a total area of 900 square feet, which was enough to hold 110 pupils.
The school was funded by:
- Patron - Griffith Llewellyn of Baglan
- Land Agent - Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot of Margam.
- The Local Community
- Government Grants
- Parental Contributions ("School Pence")
Miss Mary Baker was the first Head Mistress, and in May 1881 it was thought to be the one of the top six school in the area based on attendance records. The school closed in 1951, and is now currently a church.
