Looking at my caching karma recently, combined with my recent (thanks to Geocaching!) love of exploring all the Bay Area trails compelled me to give back. So I'm creating this Johnny Appleseed series, sprinkling caches all along the trails closest to home.
This cache is on Canyon Trail, a lonely little section of Stevens Creek County Park, with no caches on it, until now. There is parking for fee (pay at Chestnut Parking Lot or Launch Ramp at the Reservoir) at the northern trailhead from this cache, but you can often find free parking on little turnouts in the road nearby, though no guarantees. Park hours are 8:00am to sunset.
My GPSr was a bit batty today and coverage is generally bad in this area, so I'm leaving decent location hints in the text. This cache is off the trail a bit (see hint if needed), and since there is often poison oak in these areas, I've left 5 stones in the ground in a line pointing where to exit the trail. (Step on those stones for me, especially if the ground is soft, and we'll make them permanent). See gallery for picture of stones if you need the hint.
I really wanted to put the cache near this cool graffiti-art rock nearby (see waypoint) but I recall a cache there before, but it suffered from over-muggling. From artistic impressions it appears to be a well populated section of the trail. Do go check it out though, it has a lovely view, and it reminds me of Summit Rock up near Castle Rock State Park off Skyline.
Congratulations to WERDAVE for another Johnny Appleseed FTF!
Good luck, enjoy the trail, and remember it is good to give back!
