Welcome to the 10 Individuals Intercache.
What is an intercache? I hear you say.
Well it's an interactive, location based, web based platform that you play on your phones web browser. It is recommended that you use either Safari or Firefox as other browsers seem to have a bit of trouble running the platform. You need to make sure location based services are switched on for your phone and particularly your browser and if a pop-up screen comes up asking if you want your web browser to access your location, you need to select yes, otherwise the intercache won't run properly. Once that is done, you simply open up the link below in the relevant web browser on your phone and start playing.
Note: This intercache requires wireless internet access to play. Whilst I have deliberately not included any videos, images or audio files in the intercache, the text that it displays is downloaded using your mobile data during the course of playing the intercache. You cannot download all the data at a wifi hotspot and then go out and play, the data is downloaded as you play in the field and so thus will use up some of your mobile data.
This intercache is called "10 Individuals" as it came about following a small walk that I did around Melbourne General Cemetery. I selected, at random, 10 graves that kind of sparked my interest. This may have been because of the name, or something that was written on them, or just the grave itself. Whatever the reason, I came home with 10 names and began researching the history of each individual. The different histories of each individual are at times fascinating and each story really represents a slice of the lives and times of people who have made up the population of Melbourne over the years.
Start at the front entrance of the Melbourne General Cemetery on Cemetery Road and the intercache will guide you to each grave. On the way to each grave it will give you a history of the person that you are looking for. Once on location you will need to find the actual grave of the person of interest. Once that is done, hit the continue button and the intercache will ask you a simple question about the grave. Upon a correct answer, the next location of the next individual will open up and you can repeat the process. Once you have completed this for all 10 individuals, the intercache will reward you with the final coordinates for this geocache.
All the graves that you seek are inside the Melbourne General Cemetery. Please be mindful that this cemetery is open at 8am every morning and closes at either 6pm or at 8pm during daylight savings. Please do not attempt to do this intercache outside of these hours. Also, when you are playing this intercache, please act with some sensitivity towards others who may be in the cemetery. Cemeteries provide an environment of tranquillity where the living and the deceased are at peace, where contemplation and celebration of life are to be experienced. Please always be mindful of your surroundings and the feelings of other people within a cemetery when looking for the gravesites.
