The Mt. Diablo Amateur Radio Club (MDARC) was officially founded on January 9, 1947; at the home of the first president, Bud Stedinger, W6CX. Bud passed away in 1955. In his honor, MDARC subsequently adopted his call sign, W6CX, as its primary Club call. W6CX has since become almost synonymous with our Club’s name.
According to available records, Bud’s home address at the time was “RFD 1, Walnut Creek”. Not very helpful in pinning down a location. The Walnut Creek Historical Society tells me that, at that time, “RFD 1” included pretty much all of what was then Walnut Creek from Mt. Diablo Blvd north. A little better, but still not very helpful. I’ve been unable to find any other source that can identify Bud’s home more accurately, so I picked this spot to represent it.
This cache is to commemorate the founding of the Mt. Diablo Amateur Radio Club.
Note:
Parking on this street and throughout the residential portion of the neighborhood is restricted to residents only. But a parking lot is adjacent to the GZ.
