Geocache Description:

This is number 995 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box. The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

The published co-ordinates are for where the phone box and letter box are located. This is at the edge of a large car park. The area is home also to a waste bin and skip, as well as where the local supermarket trolleys are placed, awaiting return to the shop. The cache is a short walk away.

Watlington is an ancient market town, thought to be the smallest town in England. The population at the 2011 Census was 2,727. The town centre streets are old and narrow; certainly not designed for 21st century transport. Congestion often occurs. The town is known as being one of the communities where the TV series ‘Midsomer Murders’ has been filmed.

The telephone number in the ‘box’ above the smaller ‘box’ marked ‘missing people’ is: 01491 612ABC

The last collection time on a Saturday is: D.00am

The cache is at N51° 38.(Ax3)(A+B)(C-1) W001° 00.(D-C)(C/2)(Bx2)

Geocaching Etiquette. states under 'Help Center' in Paragraph 1.7: 'We like to keep things fun for everyone, so we have a few rules we encourage everyone to follow. Sign both the logbook and log your find online to get your smiley. Geocache owners love reading about your experience'. There are more rules, but this is the first one. This cache owner requests that if on the rare occasion geocachers are unable to sign, an explanation is given in their log. A photo of the cache, if possible should then be sent through the messaging system.

The A Fine Pair series was originally started by wizardsmum but is now managed by mattd2k. If anybody would like to place 'A Fine Pair' of their own please do. I would just ask that you first visit to request a number to avoid any duplication. mattd2k also keeps a public Bookmark List of this series. Once your cache is published please contact him via to have yours added.
