Geocache Description:

St George is the capital of Grenada and is situated in the Caribbean .
From the moment you set your eyes on St. George's, you'll see why it's considered one of the most picturesque ports in the Caribbean. Lush vegetation, mountainous terrain and colourful colonial architecture make up the landscape. And if the sights don't stimulate your senses, the aroma will. Grenada is also filled with spice trees and is a leading source of many different spices, including nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and cocoa.

If you are doing this cache from a cruise ship it is approx. 600 metres to gz .

There are three principal geological formations found through out the Caribbean .They are Igneous and metamorphic rocks,Limestone hills or karst, and coastal sedimentary plains of varying depths ,resulting in 3 prevailing types of topography, found either separatelyor in combination .

Igneous Rocks
Derived from the latin word meaning fire ,or magmatic rock
It is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava
The first rocks on earth were Igneous .
There are two types of Igneous rocks
Intrusive and Extrusive Rocks
Intrusive igneous rocks cool from magma slowly  because they are buried beneath the earths surface ,so they have large crystals
eg. gabbro ,granite
Extrusive igneous rocks cool from lava rapidly because they come from at the surface. They therefore have small crystals
eg.  andesite,basalt and scoria

  Sedimentary Rocks
Formed through the deposition and solidification of sediment, especially sediment that has been transported by water (rivers, lakes, oceans)ice(glaciers) and wind .
Sedimentary rocks are often deposited in layers and frequently contain fossils
eg. limestone and shale

 Metamorphic Rocks
Metamorphic rocks form deep within the earth when heat and pressure are applied  to either igneous or sedimentary rocks .In essence the heat cooks the rock changing the structure without passing through a liquid stage
eg.marble can be formed from limestone, slate from shale

 Limestone Rocks
A sedimentary rock, comprised mainly of skeletal fragments of marine organisms, such as coral, forams and molluscs.
Its major materials are the minerals calcite and aragonite which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate ,about 10% of sedimentary rocks are limestone .

To log this cache observe the area at ground zero
If you are worn out from the walk to gz take a seat and look down

Please answer questions from what you have observed and learnt and then forward to me then all good to log

Q1    Are the rocks at your gz  igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic ?
Q2    What size to do you estimate a rock to be and what colour are they ?
Q3    Are the rocks Intrusive or extrusive? give your reason for this rock type
