Geocache Description:

Welcome to what is known now as Mary Elmer Lake & Park.

Mary Elmer Lake was originally known as Ireland's Mill Pond is located in the 1,100 acre Bridgeton City Park, New Jersey.

The lake is fed by Barret's Run. You can see Barret’s Run to your left looking at the pond from where GZ is located. From this point down to a man made gravity dam known as Mary Elmer Lake Dam. If you look to your Right at the parking spot/boat ramp you might be able to see the dam. The 500 feet dam was constructed back in 1924 making the pond into the 22 acre lake reservoir you see today.  The 15 foot tall dam empties into a small stream that heads down into Sunset Lake from there into the Cohansey River, Delaware Bay and out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Bring the Kayaks, Canoes or other none gas engine boats and check out this great little know spot for fishing, bird watching and even see if you can find evidence or the local beavers.  Many times I’ve come down to this area and have seen Eagles, Ospreys, even the resident swans along with so many other birds, ducks, turtles, snakes and other wild animals.

Sunset and Mary Elmer Lakes are excellent NJ fresh water fishing spots for bass as well as trout .

For Fishing License purchase, fishing rules, and fishing regulations please visit New Jersey Fish & Wildlife.

You can stay on land and enjoy jogging, walking or pack a lunch and enjoy one of the parks many picnic spots. We bring the dogs down and they love to run around.  Just always remember If you bring it in take it out.   If you happen to see that someone else left trash behind please pick it up and place it in one of the many trashcans along the drive in.

Please always be aware of your surroundings and please do not do this at night. The park is open dusk to dawn ONLY!

Replace container as found for the next and Happy Caching!!!
