A picturesque walk through the waterfalls, wildflowers and sandstone formations of Royal National Park.
The Uloola Track (Waterfall to Heathcote) is an 11km walk along well formed tracks passing through the peaceful campsite at Uloola Falls, and a beautiful set of waterholes & rock flats at Karloo Pools along the way. The trail begins at Waterfall train station and ends at Heathcote train station (you can also do it in reverse if you choose). It is only then one stop to return back to where you started. Allow 4 - 5 hours from start to finish. There are some steep rocky sections so appropriate footwear must be worn. Also make sure you have plenty of water and sun protection.
The cache itself is outside of the National Park and all waypoints required to work out the coordinates are virtual (pre-existing) locations.
Stage 1 begins at the car park for Waterfall train station, which is also the start of the Uloola Track. There is a sign with the heading "Uloola Falls Trail". According to this sign:
- How many whole hours (without including the additional minutes) should you allow to walk to Audley? = A
- How many letters are in the word immediately to the left of the tent symbol? = B
Stage 2 is a poignant memorial to several brave souls that sadly paid the ultimate price whilst trying to protect others.
- How many crosses are there? = C
- How many words are inscribed into the concrete? = D
Stage 3 takes you to a sign with the words "Uloola Fire Trail" on it.
- What number appears twice on this sign? = E
Stage 4 is a sign with the heading "Uloola Falls Bush Campground".
- How many symbols are on this sign? = F
- How many words are on the middle slat of wood (underneath "Uloola Falls Bush Campground"? = G
- On the nearby sign titled "Karloo Track", how many times is the word "grade" mentioned? = H
Stage 5 is a much needed place to rest those tired legs after that steep descent! And a great place for a dip in the warmer months! There is another sign here titled "Karloo Track". According to this sign:
- How many letters are in the word directly below the word "Heathcote"? = I
- How many arrows are on the sign? = J
You should now have all the answers to the above questions (A to J). If you have answered everything correctly, the checksum of your answers will be 53. It's now time to kick off those walking boots and sit by the pool to work out the location of the cache. A little simple mathematics is required:
The cache is located at: S34 0E.H(D+J)(G-B) E151 0(A-C).(D+F-B)(F-A)(C+E-G)
