Sam Houston purchased this property in October of 1874. By 1875 his new Italianate home was built. Houston was one of Paducah’s leading attorneys at that time. When Houston passed away he left the home to his niece Pauline Houston Sevier. Pauline’s daughter Dorothy Sevier (pictured standing by the fence) later inherited the home. Dorothy Sevier eventually moved to an apartment at the Irvin Cobb Hotel.

In April of 1992 Paducah Bank bought the home and transformed the property into a small park. The brick room which served as an outside kitchen for the main house was preserved. According to local “historians” the brick kitchen was once used as a jail during the Civil War.
