Geocache Description:

Charles Lindbergh was born in 1902 in Detroit and is best known for winning the Orteig Prize in 1927 as the first Allied pilot to fly non-stop from New York to Paris (this was not the first transatlantic flight--a feat accomplished by British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown in 1919). Before gaining worldwide fame, Lindbergh worked hard in various aviation capacities from 1922-1924 and graduated first in his United States Army Air Service flight training class in 1925. However, due to enough active-duty pilots in service at the time of his graduation, he became a reserve officer and returned to civilian life. In October 1925, Lindbergh began flying the Contract Air Mail Route #2 (CAM-2) between St. Louis and Chicago for Robertson Aircraft Corporation (RAC). On April 13, 1926, Lindbergh executed the Post Office Department's Oath of Mail Messengers, and two days later he opened service on the new route, making his first stop in Peoria on April 15, 1926. That stop occurred at Kellar Field, Peoria's first airport, the location of this cache's first waypoint. 400 days later he would take off from Roosevelt Field in New York and land 33 1/2 hours later at Le Bourget Airport in Paris, France. Your pursuit of this cache will begin at the former location of Kellar Field. On the plaque near the given coordinates, there are two dates listed. Insert these below and perform some simple math to decipher the code to find the cache: ABCD-ABCE F=A+E G=D-C+A H=B-E-C The cache is located at: N 40 45.FGH W 89 34.EBD With final coordinates in hand, proceed to the back entrance of Forest Park (N 40 46.123 W 89 35.048) and enjoy the walk to ground zero! Permission was granted by the Peoria Parks District for placement of this cache.
