Christiaan Barnard Memorial Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

MichiEtAl: This cache was last found (by me and NinJa Speechie) in 2019, and sadly soon after that the world shut down. Unfortunately I don’t foresee that going into hospitals purely for cache clues is something many people want to do now or in the future, so I am sadly archiving this cache to make space for another placement in the area.

Thank you to NaturesFamily for the original puzzle, it remains one of my favourites! TFTC 😊

Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by NaturesFamily, who kindly allowed me to adopt it as they no longer live in South Africa. All credit for the original hide and puzzles go to them, I am simply keeping the cache alive and maintained.

Please note this cache is not at the listed co-ordinates.

To complete this cache you will need to answer the following questions and work out the final co-ordinates to the physical cache.

It is important to write down your answers in the exact order as the questions are asked.

Your journey will begin at the posted co-ordinates where you will need to make your way through the doors of the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital.

At the entrance look up at the marvellous structure on the roof.

A) Who created the structure “Threshold”?

Make your way to the 9th floor using the elevators behind the elevators that you can see at the entrance.

B) Who performed the world’s first heart transplant?

C) On what date was the world’s first heart transplant performed on?

D) How long did the recipient of the heart live for after the operation?

Take your time reading through all the interesting articles.

E) Going up to the 10th floor find out at what hospital the world’s first heart transplant was done at?

F) What was the name of the heart donor?

G) How did she pass away?

H) What was the name of the recipient?

I) How did he pass away?

Moving to floor 11:

J) Who gave Professor Barnard the bronze bust?

On floor 12 take a minute to listen to the voice dome.

K) What is the name of the person who drew the transplant sketchers?

Now skip floor 13 as there isn’t one and proceed to floor 14:

L) How many telegrams do you see?

Floor 15:

M) Why did Professor Barnard receive the silver bowl?

And finally on floor 16:

N) What disease did Professor Barnard have in this photo?
