Deck of Cards Series
I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.
There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!
I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.
This first set is the Aces. These caches are set at crossroads from Stagecoach Trail. At least it is called Stagecoach Trail now. When I was a kid it was the Scales Mound Road. Then for a while it was called the Galena - Lena Road. I know it goes past Scales Mound. You can take it to Lena. I am not so sure how much of it was for Stagecoaches. I do know the Stagecoaches went through Guilford. The common thing about the Aces is that it is possible to get to Guilford by taking any of them. I went to Guilford a lot in my life. My mother was raised on a farm in Guilford Township. Depending on road conditions we used all of these roads on occasion. Now these roads have more usage, not to get to Guilford, these roads can take people to Galena Territory.
Ace of Diamonds is located at Ford Road. It takes a winding path south to intersect with Guilford Road. It is a pretty ride. The house across Stagecoach Trail used to be the Ford School. Several additions and updates have turned it into a beautiful home. Going North on Ford Road will take you to Council Hill Station, past a winery and vineyard.
