Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

The 2 of Spades is located  at the intersection where Miner Road ends at Guilford Road. I always thought it weird that Guilford Road makes a hard 90 degree turn at this intersection and Miner Road ends. I believe Miner used to only  be 2 ruts. Now it is much improved and cars went zooming straight through as I was placing this cache. Guilford Road follows the creek to this point and then crosses over and heads up the hill more directly to Galena. That portion of it, from this intersection to Stagecoach Trail, is beautiful. There is a tree lined section around the hill I always loved. In the winter after a snowstorm or an ice storm those trees would be frosted and sparkly. I found the road winding and relaxing - still is. I drove home that way today. The rickety bridge on Guilford Road has been replaced by a nice culvert. After crossing it look to both sides. There are old stone foundations from the farm that used to be here near the stream. The one on the left side is easy to spot. I couldn't see the one on the right today. I hope they didn't knock it down.
