The Hunters Bay Trail, built in 2005, is a 3.8 km walking, running, and cycling trail. It begins at the Centre Street bridge near KWH Pipe and winds along the river, the South shore of Hunters Bay, and ends at Hwy #11.
This geoart series will take you along the Hunters Bay Trail and teach you some environmental and historical information about Hunters Bay. This is a beautiful trail during all seasons. To help you picture the trail through out the year we have included a few photos.
This photo will take you to the old steamship warf where the S.S. Algonquin was docked. Way before the train line was put through Huntsville the S.S. Algonquin would make a daily run to Hoodstown (a town situated between Lake Vernon and Fox Lake) as well as to Portage Inn (a huge inn located at North Portage at the far end of Penninsula Lake) to deliver passagers, mail, and supplies. When the train came to Huntsville the S.S. Algonquin would be primary mode of transporation to the far end of the three large Huntsville lakes: Lake Vernon, Fairy Lake, and Penninsula Lake. These pillings are yet but a memory of the huge steamship warf that was once the bustling with passangers and steamships.
To find this geocache, go to the location this photo was taken and determine the number of pilings that supported the steamship warf.
A = the number of pilings heading out into Hunters Bay.
B = the number of pilings across needed to support the lumber mill.
C = the number of big logs laying in the water near the shore.

From the location of the picture project your bearing 320 m at 193o.
On this structure:
D = the number of horizontal metal bars.
E = the number of diagnol support posts on one side
The geocache can be found at N45o 19.XXX W079o 13.YYY where XXX=E^(A/C)*C*(D+C-B)-E^(A/C) and YYY=A*B*D-(D*E)-A.
Check sum = 35; A*B=sqrt2304
You will need the number on the cache lid to find the final cache in this series.
