Following a successful year of display and talks in our local libraries, the Logan Council asked if we would be willing to do a Geocaching activity in a local park to allow the community to find out more and give it a try. And so it was.
On Sunday, August 6th, 2017 we held the event at the Amphitheatre at the Eaglby Wetlands to an enthusiastic crowd of ~30 people. The council put on drinks and snack for us and it was a well-appreciated event. As part of the day, we put out some temporary caches and a worksheet to help find them. We split the crowd up into groups an headed off on our merry way.
There are already some caches in the area so if you have not been here before a visit for this cache will well reward you with others. The area is a wetland and is a common haint for me for birding so bring your camera as well. Surprisingly no one has put a cache near the amphitheatre. As part of the stage, there is a mosaic which is quite pretty in its own right. I have tried to do a little digging but could only find the little information below;
It would appear this is actually a labyrinth. It is a contemporary design measuring 4 metres by 7 metres Made with over 500 handmade tiles by Eagleby State School and Eagleby community. So this cache does two things; to bring you along to appreciate the mosaic and the area in general, and two, as a memorial for a fun community day spreading the joys of geocaching.
