Geocache Description:

A simple cache and dash to commemorate the site of what was reputedly "the smallest chapel in Nottinghamshire".

As a child I had always wondered where the chapel was on Chapel Lane... and now I know and can share with you!

Previously, the nearby road was known as Papplewick Road, but in honour of this Free Methodist Chapel the road was renamed "Chapel Lane".

The chapel was built in 1864 and measured only twenty-seven feet by twenty-five feet. The founder of the chapel was William Clay, who died in 1879 and was buried under the aisle. He was later re-interred in Blidworth churchyard.

The chapel was demolished in 1960 by a local joiner who built a bungalow on the site.
