Geocache Description:

A Cache of Ice and Fire #11 - Jon Snow.

One of a series of caches that will take you on an adventure into the Gollans Stream area between Wainuiomata and Eastbourne. The series is designed to be accessed via Rata Ridge Track - I recommend accessing it from the end of Lees Grove in Wainuiomata. These caches are based on established Bait Lines through the reserve area. Please respect the hard work of the volunteers who work in this area - do not touch, alter, or damage any of the pest control traps. None of the caches are located near a trap - there is no need for you to come into contact with them. GPS reception in this area can be patchy - almost all of these caches are therefore hidden directly on or beside the Bait Line.

This series is named after some of the many characters from the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels (later adapted into the successful television show "Game of Thrones"). This particular cache celebrates Jon Snow.

Bastard Son of Eddard Stark by an unknown mother. Jon does not know his mother, and Eddard refused to admit her true identity to anyone, though he told King Robert Baratheon that her name was Wylla.  Eddard always treated Jon the same as his trueborn sons, but Eddard's wife Catelyn always resented him. Jon longed to join the Night's Watch, and Eddard granted him that wish before he went south to be Hand of the King. On his journey to the Wall with his Uncle Benjen, Jon came to realize that the Watch was not the noble brotherhood he thought it was and began to question his decision to join. He was far better at swordplay than his fellow trainees, and he remained aloof and distant from them, while they in turn disliked him immensely. A talk with Donal Noye helped him correct his attitude, and he soon became a natural leader, mentor, and friend to most of his fellow trainees, earning him the enmity of the master-at-arms, Ser Alliser Thorne.
