Geocache Description:

A couple of years ago we started to spend a lot of time around La Calamine / Kelmis. It is a very interesting and beautiful area, rich in history and culture,  and not least in natural treasures, in any sense. We walk and look a lot at things, and our recent geocaching hobby fits in nicely. So we are now starting to put caches on our own - we hope you enjoy. This cache here (a petling) was placed on the occasion of a visit of my cousin, to celebrate the 88th anniversary of my Mom, with a nice lunch.

The railway viaduct at Morsenet is an impressing construction, bridging the small Gueule valley. It is worthwhile to stroll along that little stream: you will find rare plants, among them the peculiar zinc violet, and we even spotted the river kingfisher there, living in the small clay cliff that the Gueule carved at places. There used to be an information table about the viaduct in the village. In short, the viaduct had been distroyed several times, including in WW2, but is restored again, to be used for heavy cargo traffic across Wallonia. Morsenet is part of the Plombieres commune,  the name of which hints to the mining activities to gain heavy metal there. Mining is suspended for now but there are still bluestone quarries around. You will find quite some examples of bluestone constructions in the villages around.

The village is worthwhile a visit, too, and it offers a small museum, and two restaurants, one of them we often visit to enjoy local specialities, or even lobster.
