La Basilica di Sant'Agostino
La Basilica fu un primo progetto per la costruzione di una nuova chiesa di grandi dimensioni nell'area alla sinistra della stazione centrale. Il progetto venne presentato dall'architetto Cecilio Arpesani nel 1895
La versione prevedeva due torri campanarie ai lati dell'abside maggiore ed una facciata a salienti con, al centro, tre grandi finestroni ad arco, chiaramente ispirati alla facciata della basilica di Sant'Ambrogio.
Questo progetto venne modificato nell'anno successivo: la costruzione del tempio ebbe inizio quattro anni dopo, nel 1900, e terminò nel 1926.
Tuttavia la chiesa venne consacrata ancora prima di essere terminata dall'arcivescovo di Milano Andrea Carlo Ferrari, il 19 giugno 1920.
Danneggiata dal bombardamento di Milano dell'agosto 1943, venne in seguito restaurata. Nel 2007, dopo mesi di lavori, è terminato il restauro dell'area absidale, con installazione di un nuovo impianto di illuminazione.
La facciata in mattoni rossi lato Via Copernico
Lo stile è neoromanico, caratterizzato dal colore rosso dei mattoncini del paramento murario. La facciata, su via Copernico, è a salienti, scandita da due contrafforti in blocchi di pietra chiara. Nella parte inferiore si trovano i tre portali, uno in corrispondenza di ogni navata. Ognuno dei portali è sormontato da una lunetta musiva a tutto sesto; quella del portale centrale raffigura i Santi Agostino e Ambrogio, mentre le lunette dei portali laterali raffigurano San Francesco di Sales (lunetta di sinistra) e San Giovanni Bosco (lunetta di destra).
A metà della facciata si apre un loggiato poggiante su colonne marmoree corinzie, che ha tre archi in corrispondenza delle due navate laterali ed cinque archi in corrispondenza della navata centrale.
Nella parte posteriore della chiesa si notano il tiburio ottagonale che si eleva all'incrocio del transetto con la navata centrale e l'abside maggiore, con loggiato e rosoni circolari, sormontata da due campanili a vela. Da lontano l'effetto è molto scenico.

- un classico Locale "IN" per serate milanesi che ogni settimana cambia nome
- la Fermata MM Sondrio Gialla che la particolarità di essere incastrata nelle fondamenta dell'Hotel adiacente
- uno storico Fornaio colpevole del fallimento delle diete della maggior parte della popolazione in zona
Curiosità : la facciata della chiesa NON è sul Viale Melchiorre Gioia come potrebbe sembrare logico. Al tempo della costruzione sul Viale era presente il Naviglio e di conseguenza la bellissima facciata che vi invito a vedere è dal lato opposto

Saint Agostino Basilica
The Basilica was a first project for the construction of a new large church in the area to the left of the central station. The project was presented by the architect Cecilio Arpesani in 1895
The version included two bell towers on the sides of the main apse and a salient façade with, in the middle, three large arched windows, clearly inspired by the facade of the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio.
This project was modified in the following year: the construction of the temple began four years later, in 1900, and ended in 1926.
However, the church was consecrated even before it was finished by the Archbishop of Milan, Andrea Carlo Ferrari, on 19 June 1920.
Damaged by the Milan bombing of August 1943, it was later restored. In 2007, after months of work, the restoration of the apse area was completed, with the installation of a new lighting system.
The red brick facade on Via Copernico side
The style is neo-Romanic, characterized by the red color of the bricks of the masonry wall. The facade, on Via Copernico, is salient, marked by two buttresses in blocks of light stone. In the lower part there are the three portals, one in correspondence with each nave. Each of the portals is surmounted by a round-shaped mosaic lunette; that of the central portal depicts the Saints Agostino and Ambrogio, while the lunettes of the side portals depict Saint Francis de Sales (left lunette) and San Giovanni Bosco (right lunette).
Halfway up the façade opens a loggia resting on Corinthian marble columns, which has three arches in correspondence of the two side aisles and five arches in correspondence of the central nave.
In the back of the church we can see the octagonal tiburio which rises at the crossroads of the transept with the central nave and the main apse, with a loggia and circular rose windows, surmounted by two sailing bell towers. From far away the effect is a lot scenic.

- a classic Local "IN" for Milanese evenings that changes its name every week
- the stop Sondrio Yellow MM that the peculiarity of being stuck in the foundations of the adjacent hotel
- a historic Baker guilty of the failure of the diets of most of the population in the area
Curiosity: the facade of the church is NOT on Viale Melchiorre Gioia as it might seem logical. At the time of construction on the Viale was the Naviglio and consequently the beautiful facade that I invite you to see is on the opposite side
