Geocache Description:

Where in the world is Signal the Frog? Why, he is vacationing in Australia this weekend and we'll be here from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Conshohocken Brewery to celebrate!

I sure hope Signal will have fun, but I'm not sure if the climate or the wildlife will suit a frog. Australia is the driest, flattest and the hottest of all the inhabited continents and most of the wildlife there is out to kill and eat you!

I suggest he holes up, like we are, in a pub for the remainder of his stay. This will cause another problem... what to call the size of beer he'll want to drink. Aussies have no standard beer sizes and with six states and two territories you’ve got eight regions assigning whatever names and liquid measures they feel like. In fact, there are over 15 different glass names and measurements across Australia, and if that wasn’t hard enough, some of the names are the same – but with different sized contents!

To keep it simple let's just say Signal will want either a small 10 oz. or large 15 oz. beer. Due to the Australian heat, smaller beers are the most popular and he'll be ordering a pot in Victoria or Queensland, but in New South Wales, Western Australia and Canberra he should ask for a middy. Throw those rules out the window for Tasmania where it's a ten and in the Northern Territory a handle.

The term schooner is fairly consistent across Australia for a 15 oz. beer, but in Adelaide a schooner will get what’s considered a pot ormiddy elsewhere. A 15 oz. beer in Adelaide is called a pint. Everywhere else in Australia, a pint will usually be the normal 20 oz. imperial.

If this is all very confusing, just order a tinnie (can) or brownie (bottle) of beer!

This is just a simple event, no raffles or door prizes, just a social gathering of like-minded geocachers like yourself. As an added bonus, you'll earn the Australia Day 2018 Souvenir for attending! This location is mainly a brewery, but limited food is available. No worries, mate!
