In 1955, to celebrate the royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, an illuminated fountain was erected in Pukekura Park's lower lake. This fountain has 228 waterjets, the highest reaching 15 meters.
In the same year, Truby King Dell was planted out for Arbor Day, in honour of the founder of Plunket. It has become another delightful green spot in the city.
