ORT Trail image

A group of us completed the Bruce Trail. After a couple pints the discussion immediately turned to, which trail is next!
The answer came back, let's hike the Oak Ridges Trail!

This is the eighth event cache of a series that will proceed down the ORT from Glen Haffy to Rice Lake eventually.

We plan to keep the hikes around 20km in length so there will be plenty of time for pre and post hike socializing. This hike will start where the ORT Hike #7 Event ended at Avery Road, and will continue mainly through Long Sault Conservation Area for 10km. Since this is a winter hike, it's well advised to bring snowshoes and we've shortened the distance to 10km.

We'll meet at the roadside parking area on Avery Road and continue for about 10km. The goal is to leave a car or two at each end so we can shuttle before and after each hike.

Come for the hike, or come to say hello! We'll be at the posted co-ordinates from 9:00AM to about 9:30AM. While you're welcome to join us on the hike it's certainly not a requirement.

If you're hiking, we recommend you bring:

  • Good hiking footwear - snowshoes recommended and/or ice cleats if the trails are packed down.
  • This is a late winter hike so make absolutely sure you are prepared for the weather. Wear layers and something water resistant.
  • Your GPSr
  • Extra batteries, and keep them inside your jacket
  • A camera!
  • Snacks and a lunch. A thermos with a warm beverage would be a good idea.
