Geocache Description:

small cointained just off the side of the road

At 7:33 A.M. December 18,2017 southbound train #501 derailed onto southbound Interstate I-5 less than half a mile from this location. Tragically 3 passengers lost their lives.77 others were treated for injuries, some of them life threatening. Both passengers and interstate travelers acted heroically in caring for the injured immediately after that derailment. The southbound lanes of the ninterstate were closed for three days during the time of assessment and later removal of all the train cars and the foward engine. Only the rear engine had remained on the tracks. Traffic diversion was complicated as there are no alternative roads crossing the nearby Nisqually River. Thankfully the nearby military base opened some of their roads to assist with this. If you drove under the train overpass to get here , or will do that when leaving this cache , give a thought to those whose lives were changed by this accident
