The Isle of Whithorn

By land or by sea, the Isle is easy to get to. A couple of centuries ago, the Isle of Whithorn was indeed an island, connected to the mainland by a causeway. Over time, houses and other buildings were built along it, and the attractive harbour area that we have today was formed.
The Isle of Whithorn is situated around a natural harbour offering sailing and wind surfing. St Ninian's chapel was built to serve pilgrims travelling by sea to visit St Ninian's shrine.
Well as we have already hidden a cache at the Isle this gave me an Interesting Idea.
The Information Station
So we decided that as this would be the first cache visited by anyone doing the series in a "clockwise" order around the peninsular it would be good to have a drive in cache with plenty of Information to make your visit more interesting.
The cache can be found by stopping at the layby with the info point that is your Introduction to the Machars!
The A to Z of the Machars is a project by team Geoscouts We aim to hide a new cache each week over the coming weeks and months to introduce visitors to the treasures of this amazing peninsular. We hope that you enjoy finding them as much as we enjoyed creating them. There's never a dull day here (even when it rains)
