La Iglesia de los Santos Fabián y Sebastián es la más antigua en construcción y dedicación al culto de las existentes en Don Benito. En su estructura original data de finales del siglo XIV.
En el lugar y las proximidades de ésta que se historia, existen indicios de otro templo o ermita anterior. En la fachada norte, debajo de la ventana, se encuentra embutida en el muro una portada de puro estilo románico. Y el hallazgo de restos arqueológicos y enterramientos romanos en los alrededores denotan la existencia de un hábitat romano.
La Iglesia de los Santos Fabián y Sebastián de Don Benito está asentada en la cima de una pequeña colina de roca caliza, y desarrolla su planta de saliente a poniente sobre una superficie rectangular de 300 metros cuadrados, 25x12, con sacristía y patio anejos. Es originariamente de estilo románico y estuvo cubierta de artesonado, sustituido a mediados del siglo XIX por las bóvedas de ladrillos actuales, que dividen su longitudinalidad en cuatro cuerpos o naves transversales, más otra menor que ampara el presbiterio, enmarcadas por arcos de medio punto apoyados en pilares interiores. El cuerpo o nave que sigue a la parte presbiteral, es una bóveda cupulada que descansa en pechinas, de 4 metros de altura y rematada en linterna. Las tres bóvedas contiguas son de arista o crestería truncada.
En 1.948, con el objeto de ampliar la capacidad de la Iglesia, se construyó el coro alto de la parte posterior.
Aunque la Iglesia está dedicada a los Santos Fabián y Sebastián, en el reconocimiento popular ha prevalecido la advocación de San Sebastián, que tiene atribuido en la veneración de la Iglesia Universal el patronazgo contra las pestes y enfermedades contagiosas.
El imparable desarrollo demográfico de Don Benito, especialmente a partir de la Guerra de la Independencia, hizo que se crearan nuevas parroquias (la de Santiago y la de Santa María y San Gregorio) y esta de San Sebastián fue erigida como tal por decreto del Obispo de Plasencia Don Pedro Casas y Souto, de 1 de Julio de 1.896.
El censo actual de la Parroquia de San Sebastián es de unos 5.000 feligreses. Desde su fundación la han servido, en calidad de párrocos, regentes y coadjutores, 23 sacerdotes.

The Church of Saints Fabian and Sebastian is the oldest in construction and dedication to the worship of the existing ones in Don Benito. In its original structure dates from the late fourteenth century.

It is originally of Romanesque style and was covered with coffered ceiling, replaced in the middle of the 19th century by the current brick vaults, which divide its longitudinality into four transversal bodies or aisles, plus another smaller one that shelters the presbytery, framed by round arches supported by in interior pillars. The body or nave that follows the presbyteral part, is a vaulted vault resting on pendentives, 4 meters high and topped with a lantern. The three adjoining vaults are truncated edge or crest.
In 1948, in order to expand the capacity of the Church, the high choir of the back was built.
Although the Church is dedicated to Saints Fabián and Sebastián, popular recognition has prevailed over the dedication of Saint Sebastian, who has been attributed in the veneration of the Universal Church the patronage against contagious diseases and pests.
The unstoppable demographic development of Don Benito, especially after the War of Independence, led to the creation of new parishes (that of Santiago and that of Santa María and San Gregorio) and that of San Sebastián was erected as such by decree of the Bishop of Plasencia Don Pedro Casas y Souto, July 1, 1896.
