Fourth in a series dedicated to Bernie’s the Aussie’s forest friends. 🐾
Bernie was cruising along one of his favorite winter hiking loops , catching up with old friends and enjoying a sunny January day. As he approached the powerline from Hemlock Knob he noticed some strange noises coming from a spruce tree. He spied a new friend who looked distraught.
“I lost my watermelon berry!” His new friend cawed.
“How do you lose a great big watermelon?” Bernie asked.
“Not a watermelon...a watermelon berry! I stashed it here last summer and now it’s GONE! I think that chubby squirrel that was hanging around here last summer must have ate it!” Bernie’s friend screeched.
“Wait a minute, I know that guy...and he likes lingonberries, not watermelon berries...” Bernie stepped closer and spotted something out of place in the wintery environment....
Can you help Bernie’s friend find her berry?
There are many great trails that can be reached from the Upper Huffman parking lot that are fun in summer and winter. Have fun exploring them like Bernie does! Be sure to watch for moose and bears (and gargoyles, dragons, and chubby squirrels).
