Geocache Description:

Grosvenor & Hilbert #1

Welcome to Grosvenor and Hilbert Park; Tunbridge Wells’ oldest municipal park opened in 1889 on the site of the old Calverley Water Works.  In 1931 a farm was annexed to make the park we see today. This is the 1st cache in the series designed to take you on a tour of the park which has benefitted from a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. Suggested parking and access is Auckland Rd or Hilbert Rd which are largely free of double yellow lines.  See  map below.

The listed coordinates take you to the one interpretation board in Grosvenor & Hilbert Park that's not accessible by wheelchair. Its in the Community Orchard.  It can be muddy to get to the board and to get to the cache so wear suitable footwear.

To find the cache read the board and answer the following:-

  • When did the mixed orchard begin? ABCD
  • How many birds are flying above the trees in the picture? E

The cache is a camouflaged bison tube attached to a tree at N51 08. (AxE) (ExC) B    E000  16. (AxD) B (C+D). Please use extreme stealth and make sure the cache is well tightened up and covered when you put it back because the location has lots of dog walkers and children playing .

The cache has been placed with the kind permission of the Friends of Grosvenor & Hilbert Park and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. More information about the park can be found on the Friends' website and Facebook page
