I've lived on the east mountain for a while and one thing I've noticed here is that the some of the squirrels here are a little nuts. You could say they have a one-track mind: no matter what else they do, they always make sure to run the exact same route every single day. Not just circles in backyards, but racing down the sidewalks of the neighbourhood streets. One day I decided to figure out if there was some meaning to this madness, and after a bit of calculating, I realized there certainly was. Here are the squirrel patterns I uncovered; see if you can make some sense out of their antics:

  1. First of all, there's a squirrel in Highview Park that I'll call Robin (names have been changed or fabricated to protect squirrel identity). His favourite track starts off heading eastbound from the community mailboxes at the south end of the park. From there, he turns right onto Rendell Blvd and then immediately right again onto Cloke Ct, which he follows to the end.
  2. John is a squirrel who lives in a tree at Sherwood Secondary School. Every morning he heads west along Brucedale Ave, and from there, only makes right turns – onto Wellwood St, Edgewood Ave, High St, and Sherwood Rise. He usually gets tuckered out before Sherwood Rise itself curves to the right.
  3. Marion lives at the corner of Princeton Dr and Morningside Dr. She likes to head east down Morningside, takes the first left, then the first right, and then the first right again. She only makes it about halfway down that street, when she gets to her cousin's nest and they hang out together there for the rest of the day.
  4. Then there's Al, who loves parks. He lives in Hampton Park, and every evening takes a leisurely stroll along 9th Ave over to Fernwood Park. He turns right on Winchester, and then follows 10th Ave to E 45th St. Once there, he doubles back to Winchester and follows it south to where it ends.
  5. Will starts at the intersection of Sandalwood Ave and Kingslea Dr. He does a clockwise loop right around Huntington Park Rec Centre and School, after which he continues south down Kingslea  Dr. He then turns right on Endfield Ave, which he follows to its end.
  6. Tuck is a squirrel who likes to go around in circles. He is the only squirrel I've seen that doesn't follow his route in exactly the same way every day, but does make sure to include the same sections each time. Whatever way he approaches it, he makes sure to cover the entirety of Wise Cres, a section of Grenadier Dr between the two ends of Wise Cres, and a section of Elliott Ave between Wise Cres and Grenadier Dr.
So much for our squirrelly friends. Now go find the cache (and don't forget your squirrelly tree climbing skills)! Assume N43° 12.____' W79° 49.___'.
