Maintenace carried out on 05/03/2023, cache good to go again! Hawkcraig Point has a great view and is the site of the former HMS Tarlair, a hydrophone training station. Men at the station were taught to use hydrophones to detect the noise of a new menance - enemy submarines. The training the men received, on both land and ship-based hydrophones, was exported across the globe from here. During WW1, the Firth of Forth, one of the key Scottish Naval Bases, became a great training pen for hydrophone use.
