While out walking the trails of White Butte take note of the bushes in the area. A lot of them are the "Diamond Willow" bushes.
The "Diamond" shape in the willow is most likely caused by a fungas which causes cankers to form in the wood in response to the infection. The Diamond is usually found with a branch at it's center or at the "Y" of a tree. The shape of the diamond can vary from one clump of bush to another. Diamond Willow is a prized piece of wood for wood carvers and furniture makers. One of my uncles (who made furniture) gave us two pieces of Diamond Willow which Wilf made into two lamps.
In these bushes look for the diamond in the branch and a camoed bison tube! Please leave it "exactly" where we placed it so it doesn't migrate! BYOP and tweezers would be good too!
Enjoy your adventures in the White Butte Trails!
