Sacrario del Monte Baldo
...per non dimenticare...
Il Sacrario del Monte Baldo, situato a 1003 m s.l.m., è stato fatto costruire nel 1982 dall’Associazione Nazionale Combattenti e Reduci di Verona a memoria di tutti i veronesi periti in tutte le guerre. Non accoglie salme, ma in un giardino ad anfiteatro ci sono i 98 candidi cippi con i nomi dei Comuni Veronesi. Al centro del quale si apre una gradinata che porta all’altare sovrastato da una grande croce. Qui si rende riconoscenza e onore ai Caduti della Prima e della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, che immolarono la loro giovane esistenza per la difesa della Patria, per la Libertà di cui tutti noi godiamo.
L’Annuale festa del Sacrario si tiene la terza Domenica di Giugno.
Dal sacrario inizia il sentiero che porta alle “Buse dei Morti” che si trovano nei pressi di Malga Basiana, un piccolo cimitero di guerra che risale al 1848 anno della prima guerra di indipendenza e raccoglie le spoglie di otto soldati dell’epoca, cinque piemontesi dell’esercito di Carlo Alberto e tre austriaci, morti il 22 luglio 1848; questi luoghi segnano il punto in cui i Piemontesi resistettero a lungo ad un numero maggiore di forze austriache prima di ritirarsi su Rivoli.
Il cache è nascosto al di fuori del sacrario, ma il luogo merita comunque un doveroso rispetto.

The Shrine of Monte Baldo

The Sacrario del Monte Baldo (memorial to those who died in all wars) was built in 1982 at the behest of the National Association of Combatants and Veterans. No one is buried here, but in an amphitheatre-shaped garden there are 98 white stones with the names of the town of the Verona area. In the centre is a staircase that leads to an altar with a great cross. Here homage is paid to the soldiers who gave their young lives in the First and Second World Wars in defence of their Country, for the Liberty that all of us enojy today.
The annual festival of the Shrine is held on the third Sunday of June.
From the shrine begins the path that leads to the "Buse dei Morti" which are located near Malga Basiana, a small war cemetery that dates back to 1848 the year of the first war of independence and collects the remains of eight soldiers of the time, five Piemontesi of the army of Carlo Alberto and three Austrians, who died on 22 July 1848; these places mark the point where the Piemontesi resisted for a long time to a greater number of Austrian forces before retiring to Rivoli.
The cache is located outside the shrine, but this place still deserves due respect.
