Geocache Description:

Dawn to Dusk caching please and be respectful. This is in “Union Cemetery.”

I’m Putting this out in support of my nearby event:

“Cache Talkin over a Cup of Joe II”. Held on January 27th 2018.

Union Cemetery has no sign to let you know it’s there.  It’s just a pair of open iron gates along Union Cemetery Road. I would be hesitant to come here if it’s been snowing or after long periods of rain. The roads in the cemetery are just crushed stone. I had trouble getting around in my Subaru Crosstrek with slush & snow on the ground. If it has been bad weather I would only attempt this in a 4 wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle.

Cache container is listed as regular. It’s a smallish regular a 40oz peanut butter jar.

To find the final you go to the first stage.

The grave of Thomas H. Walker.

Private, Company C, 4th Pennsylvania Volunteer Calvary.

“Tom Walker” was mustered into Federal service on February 10th. 1864. at the age of 18. Company C of the 4th Pa. Cav was mostly made up of men from Westmoreland County. Less than a year later he was out of the Army. I could not find the reason why he was Discharged with a Surgeon's Certificate on January 7, 1865. I imagine due to illness.  More solders died of disease than bullets in the Civil War.

The final hide is approximately 120 feet away at 55 degrees East by North East. I sat a compass on top of the Tom’s head stone.

As a side note. When you’re at Trooper Walkers grave look to your left. Not too far away there is the grave of a Confederate soldier. Private Rufus C. Davidson of the 2nd Maryland Cavalry.Confederte States of America.  I found no information on his service record. How he ended up here I don't know.

I hid this in the middle of winter and traveling through the brush was easy. I would think in the middle of summer this might not be the case.
