You are in Mission, Texas, looking for a small geocache east of Conway Avenue near the end of and in the middle of Bouganvilla Street at the base of a Bougainvillea bush. Bougainvillea is named for the French Navy admiral and explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville and published in 1789. It had various spellings until the 1930's when Bougainvillea became official. The vine species of Bougainvillea can grow between 3 to 40 feet tall. To train it into shrub/bush form the shoots are cut back in summer. Where rainfall occurs all year they are evergreen, and deciduous if there is a dry season. Each cluster of three tiny generally white flowers is surrounded by three or six bracts that are flower-like leaves near the flowers. The bright colors of the Bougainvillea bracts can be pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow and can bloom for a long time. They flourish in any soil if given full sun. Enjoy this First Day of Spring and all the days that follow. Available during daylight hours only.* * * TaxProRGV will help with maintenance issues when I am back up north (thanks)! * * *
