Geocache Description:

Welcome to my first CITO at the Challenge Bikeway in Vallejo. Please come at 9:30 a.m. to enjoy food, and bring some breakfast items to share with others. From 10:00-12:00 we will be cleaning the litter from the bikeway.

We will meet under the tents at the beginning of the trail at 9:30, and at 10, you are welcome to disperse and clean up any area along the trail. The beginning and the south end are relatively flat land while everywhere in between is hillier. With that being said, you can choose to cache along any of the areas on the trail depending what you can/want to do.

With many geocache opportunities along the bikeway, don’t hesitate to do some caching along the trail while picking up debris. Note: all the caches along the trail are challenge caches which need qualifiers.

I would recommend dressing in layers due to Vallejo’s windiness. Also bring your CITO tools and gloves. Trash bags will be provided as well as a removal service to haul away the bags of trash.

Please RSVP for an accurate food count, and if available, we could use another car to help with transportation between the beginning and end of the trail.

You will find that many of the geocaches along the trail have been posted by JoyfulNomad. They have been running the Bikeway CITO for the past three years, but unfortunately, they will not be here this year so they handed this event to me to host, and I couldn’t be more excited! As a senior in high school, I have been planning this event to be used as a Senior Project for my last year of high school and BeJoyful has been amazing at being my mentor and helping me pull this together. This CITO has also served as a basis for my research on environmental topics such as the effects of pollution/litter, how trash is processed, and the effectiveness of cleanup events such as this one. Given that it is my Senior Project as well as Earth Day, there may be some non-geocachers helping us clean up.

I look forward to seeing everyone there and making Vallejo a little cleaner.
