Another beautiful beach and bay on Kangaroo Island that somehow we have missed finding until this trip.
Pennington Bay sits on the south coast of Kangaroo Island near the narrowest point of the island. It is accessible via a short unsealed road that runs off of Hog Bay Road. It is a stunning bay that is famous for its surfing. which is some of the best surfing on the island.
The water at Pennington Bay is not always ideal for swimming, though the stunning scenery is a great place to take some magnificent photographs. Caution should be taken as the waves can be quite rough and large at times.
Dolphins and whales can often be spotted swimming and playing in the water at Pennington Bay. Visitors are advised to come equipped with a camera and binoculars to truly enjoy the beauty of the bay and its wildlife.
The beach is surrounded by some stunning bush land, which is home to a variety of wildlife.
Well worth a visit. If you go swimming here as with other areas on the isalnd be aware of rips. If caught in a rip do not fight it but swim to the side until you are out of it and then swim back to shore.
The cache is hidden in a small cavelike area at the base of the cliffs. While you will need to get down to the beach and around to GZ you will not need to climb on or risk damaging the cliffs. The container is a circular green plastic screw top container. It is help in place by a couple of rocks placed to keep it positioned. After signing the log please replace the rocks to hold the cache in place to keep it from being moved by animals or even by a king tide!
