South posteds + ABC - 397
East posteds + XYZ - 292
Some details
The aim of this puzzle is to place light bulbs so that every white square is illuminated.
A few simple rules to start with:
- Once placed, a light will shine a beam through all white squares to the north, south, east, and west until the beam hits a black square or the edge of the grid.
- The numbers in the black squares indicate how many light bulbs surround that square directly to the north/south/east/west.
- No beam may illuminate another light bulb.
- Once you've solved the grid, I have selected a specific column and row. Numbering from 1,2,3 etc either top to bottom or left to right, take each box that contains a light bulb and add up the square numbers - one total for the column and one for the row. Let the number for the column equal ABC. Let the number for the row equal XYZ. And plug into the formula to obtain coordinates.
An example may help:
✔ All white squares illuminated.
✔ All numbered squares have appropriate number of bulbs.
✔ No beam illuminates another bulb.
✔ ABC = 28; XYZ = 30
