Geocache Description:

This is near to a hidden village for a famous rabbit! The cache is a screw top container with plenty of room for swaps and travel bugs. Be aware that Sundays might not be the best time to visit so respect will be required. Once you've found the cache, why not check out Peter Rabbit's house - but please leave everything as you find it. "It has been described as Garston's best kept secret, but the rabbit is finally out of the bag. For more than 23 years children have been visiting Peter Rabbit's house in a secret location near the Garston Presbyterian Church. It started out when a mystery benefactor marked a rabbit hole under a tree with a signpost marking "Peter Rabbit's House." During the years people have added to the site, first adding a clothes line, then a outdoor toilet, christened the bunny dunny. Now schoolchildren have expanded the famous bunny's neighbourhood, building a whole village for him to enjoy. Garston School teacher Therese Lagan said the area had been "starting to look a bit tatty." Her pupils were focussing on community involvement for the year, and the village project was a great way for the children to make a positive change to their town. "A lot of children from other places visit the house, it's a great way for our children to reach out to them." The project lasted the length of 2017, with some of the learning outcomes including town planning, project management, design, mathematics, and construction. The village was modelled after gold rush era Kingston, complete with gold dredges. "They're so proud of what they've done." New visitors who wanted to find the spot should "ask a local," Lagan said. Garston community development area subcommittee chairwoman Pam Naylor said the past growth of the attraction had been very organic. "A lot of the visitors that live away from the district come back and add things." The house's fame had grown by word of mouth in the past she said. "Now we've had third-generation people bringing their grandchildren there. The identity of the person who placed the original sign remains a mystery, Naylor said. "I have my suspicions, it's one of three people." The schoolchildren were not finished with their project yet Lagan said. There were plans to add street signage, and her pupils would be writing stories detailing Peter's exploits in the village. The school will celebrate its achievement with a picnic in the green in February, with children who have moved schools since invited to the party."
