Yarn comes in many shapes and forms.  To the soft, fluffy yarn to very course yarn.  It also comes in many thickness ranging from thread through to yarn that is that thick that it takes a massive hook to be able to crochet with it.  Yarn also can be made for so many things for example acrylic, wool, cotton, alpaca, mixed blend, mohair, and even wire.

There is many major manufactures of yarn for example there is Stlyecraft, Bernat, DMC, Drops, Scheepjs, 3 Bears, Malabrigo, King Cole, Red Heart, Fyberspats, Caron to name but a few.  Within all these manufactures you then have different names of yarn representing different thickness, what the yarn is made from etc.  Then once you have picked the brand and the type of yarn there is the colour some has approx. 80 or more colours to pick from – thankfully all are given a code.
