I don’t see many people flying kites these days. When I was younger it was a favourite past-time. The only trouble was, there were too many trees and overhead wires in our street. We kept losing our kites to these. Well, near this cache is a large open field where you can fly a kite to your heart’s content.
And when you tire of that, you could kick a ball. And if you have little ones with you, nearby is one of my favourite playgrounds – Markham Reserve Playground. There is a toilet and water fountains here. A good watering hole if you are a cyclist. But if you are coming by car, the carpark is right in front of the playground.
There’s also a trail that runs along the creek which is frequented by dog walkers and locals who prefer the tranquillity of the bush to the pavement. You might want to head down there after this to pick up the other two caches in this area.
Speaking of kites reminds me of a Mary Poppins song –
Let's Go Fly a Kite
Lyrics from "Mary Poppins"
Composed by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman
You can have your own set of wings
With your feet on the ground
You're a bird in flight
With your fist holding tight
To the string of your kite
Oh, oh, oh
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite
When you send it flying up there
All at once you're lighter than air
You can dance on the breeze over houses and trees
With your fist holding tight
To the string of your kite
Oh, oh, oh
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite
