Helen Meador Boyd died in 2000 at the age of 97. She owned a 40 acre tract of land extending north from Rockland Road. The tract she owned was needed for additional green space at Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. Her son Ben was a friend of Kelly Jordan, head of the Arabia Alliance. Ben, also a proponent for more green space in DeKalb County, agreed to sell the land to the County for addition to Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve for only half of the appraised value. The 50% off sale was conditioned on the property being designated as a memorial forest in honor of his mother Helen Meador Boyd.

Governor Roy Barnes, along with numerous other dignitaries, was instrumental in getting approval for the required 50% of appraised value. After the acquisition, the land was designated as the Helen Meador Boyd Memorial Forest and a sign was erected next to Rockland Road along the bike path

Park at the Arabia Mountain Nature Center Parking Lot on Klondike road. Proceed north on the bike path to the cache .
