On the Mark Twain Nation Forest, Eleven Point Ranger Station Doniphan Office. So why did we call this Smokey in the Air #2 ? Well, it's part of a series where all the caches at the ranger station has Smokey the Bear in their name. This was here before so it the second one in this spot so it #2. In the air? Can you see the orange wind sock? The space your looking at across the back of the lot is a Helicopter spot. If you look at this area in google maps you can see a circle and in the center you can see an H. Helicopters can see this from the air. Smokey Bear has many people helping him prevent wildfires. The people who work here and in other Forest Service offices all help out in any way they can. There are some here who are Helicopter crew members and others who can manage a helicopter spot like this one or one located at a wildfire. We use helicopters to transport people, equipment and buckets of water to drop on a fire. If the office is open, M-F 8 to 4:30 CT, please stop by, we have a show room in the front with many items of interest.
