Rock walls have been used for thousands of years to delineate property lines. As modern building techniques evolved or property is consolidated throughout the years, their importance decreases and they are abandoned. I always found it interesting when I come across a rock wall where I least expect it: What did the original property look like? Why a boundary here?
This is the 17th in a series highlighting forgotten rock walls that I have come across, usually while geocaching. The others are available at the following link:

I had noticed this wall a number of years ago. Recently, my wife told me about it and prompted me to go take a look. From Rt. 10, I only saw a little and assumed that it was once part of the nearby historic Ayers-Knuth farm. However, exploring the site showed it to be much more. With a retention pond above, footings of building below, and what appears to be a raceway, it appears that this was once a mill of some type. I would love to know more about the site.
Parking appears to be legal on the nearby Druid Wood Road, however it is tight so use your discretion.
