Geocache Description:

This is the sixth cache in the Chehalis Parks Series.  The number located in/on this cache represents the letter "Z" in the final cache of the series. In order to find the final cache (GC7HWN3 - Henderson Park), you must collect the numbers from find five other caches.  Hopefully this series takes you to parts of our wonderful little town you may not have been to before and also to learn a little bit about the history of Chehalis in the process.

It’s time to play ball at Stan Hedwall!  Of course there’s much more than just ballfields at the park, but this area is well-known as a hub for youth recreation, and is home to Twin City Babe Ruth, Chehalis Little League, and Chehalis Youth Soccer.

This is Chehalis’ largest park with roughly 100 acres of wooded land and 100 acres of open meadows and fields.  The Newaukum River flows through the wooded area of the park, providing good fishing and rock-hounding in a relaxing and leisurely atmosphere.  An open outdoor pavilion area features a big-toy playground, volleyball court, and horseshoe pits (bring your own ball and horseshoes).  Enjoy a leisurely walk on the three miles of trails, or come and stay a while . . .  A 29-site RV area is also available and includes electric, cable and water hookups, picnic tables, fire pits in select sites, and restrooms with showers.

A covered shelter area is used extensively by locals, as well as out-of-town groups, during spring, summer and fall.  The shelter area provides tables & benches, four sinks, electrical lighting and outlets, and four wood-burning cook stoves for warming food.

Scout Island is located in the southeast corner of Stan Hedwall Park.  The bridge to the island crosses over a slough which is part of the Newaukum River.  In years past, the Boy Scouts of America have used this area for various day camps and at least one Eagle Scout project.

Congratulations to BobBevLacie for being the FTF!!!
