Historic Hamilton is a series of caches that serve to bring cachers to historic places in and around the City of Hamilton. These caches can be placed by anyone, and are not limited to one CO. If you know of a historic place that you would like to bring people to, feel free to add it to the series!
This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. You will need to watch a 10-minute video published by the Hamilton Public Library in order to solve for the cache's location. The video will take you on a tour of the James St North area over the past nearly two centuries. Record the dates for items below to assemble the coordinates. Everything should be very straightforward.
Here's the link to the video followed by the facts you will need to record
James Street North Episode 1
Coordinates for the final are: N 43 AB.CDE W 079 FG.HIJ
To make things as simple as possible I have listed the facts in the order they appear in the video
E = The year Hamilton was incorporated as a police village (4th digit), then subtract 2
G = The year the earliest buildings in downtown Hamilton burned (4th digit), then subtract 2
H = The year Market Square was expropriated for the construction of Jackson Square (3rd digit)
C= Digital Root of the year McGregor & Parke Drugstore was founded, then add 1
D = The year the first Hamilton Street Railway route started (4th digit)
I = The number of 'cars' the HSR had when it first started, then add 2
A = The year of the final streetcar trip (4th digit)
J = The year Mill's Hardware opened (4th digit) plus the year it closed (4th digit), then add 1
B = The year the Hamilton Grafton Dept Store was constructed in Hamilton (4th digit)
F = The year that Zeller's closed in Hamilton (4th digit) minus the year it opened (3rd digit)
