Geocache Description:

This cache is named after a novel by Captain Marryat. The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates! To find the cache, you will need to solve a cipher. But first, some history...

Once upon a time in the great land of Scythia, there lived a king named Fénius Farsaid. Goídel mac Ethéoir, Íar mac Nema and a retinue of seventy-two scholars journeyed with Fénius to the Tower of Babel. His scholars set out to study the various new languages that were being spoken by the tower’s dispersed workers. After ten years of study, the best part of each language was brought together to become Gaelic, which was named after Goídel. Maybe he is best remembered for designing his perfected writing system for his languages, in which he named the letters after his 25 best scholars.

Hints for GZ: Cache is a large bison tube in a tree. The tree will be directly between two carparks. If you draw an imaginary line from the middle of one carpark to the middle of the other carpark, the tree should ideally be on that line. The tree has a small stump at its base. It’s hidden on the northern side of the tree, about head-height.

Hints for puzzle: The alphabet this cipher is based upon contains 16 consonant sounds and 10 vowel sounds, so I have spelled parts of the coordinates phonetically. This is intentional, to confuse the cryptogram checkers a bit. You may need to do a little research.

Please be extremely careful if caching in this area at night time.

FTF is ZQX & Miskit, well done!
