We found her crawling on the phone
Our first response was "ewww" and "oh!"
We had to think about what to do
Most wanted her squished under a shoe
But I for one thought 'that ain't right'
And thought I'd save her from her plight
So I went and found a specimen cup
And I opened the lid and scooped her up
And placed her on the desk to be
The night shift mascot for all to see
And most who walked by picked her up
And asked 'what will you do with a bug in a specimen cup?"
"In the dead of winter, with cold and snow"
"Just where do you think this poor bug can go?"
And ideas were batted, forth and back
Like the parking ramp, or an abandoned shack
A decision was not really made
But we did decide that she needed a name
And we figured she looked like a Stu or a Fred
Then thought if she were male she'd already be dead
So a female name it would have to be
We settled on Charlotte as you can see
The night shift passed and day shift showed
My co-workers made sure that I knowed
That Charlotte was my responsibility
And placed the container close by me
I finished report and picked her up
And walked out with the bug in a specimen cup
To the parking ramp, I was going to set her free
But it was too cold and too windy
So she ended going home with me
And now what could I do with the trouble I'd brought
A brown marmorated stink bug named Charlotte?
I figured I'd put her in my shed
But it'd have to be after I went to bed
So I stifled a yawn and loosened the lid
So she could breath while into sleep I slid
Was I surprised when I got up
The lid was off that Specimen cup
It was empty and the bug was gone
Who knew Charlotte was really that strong?
I might think twice if this situation again comes up
But the good news is I'm left with a specimen cup
And now I've hidden it where you might find
Plenty more of Charlotte's kind
Happy Hunting
